STM’S FIRST STEM SEMINAR

The Birth of Shifting TechMindset: A
Journey Begins

On a sunny afternoon in the summer of 2023, four friends aged 14 and 15 gathered at their favorite pizza spot for a pivotal conversation about their future in high school and beyond. Among them was GC, who had invited his friends to discuss their dreams and aspirations in an increasingly digital world. What did they want to be when they grew up? How could they prepare themselves for the future?

The Genesis of a Vision: Empowering Future Innovators

This gathering marked the kickoff of something much larger—Shifting TechMindset (STM), a vision brought to life by Dr. Tina Onuoha and her son GC. Recognizing the need for accessible, inclusive, and empowering STEM education, Dr. Tina and GC founded STM to nurture the next generation of technologists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders. Their mission: bridge the digital gap and foster a culture of paying it forward, ensuring more people can thrive in the digital economy and contribute positively to their communities.

Building a Community of Innovators: The Power of Collaboration

Their vision quickly attracted like-minded partners. Dr. Bridget and Lissette joined forces with Dr. Tina and GC, each bringing unique expertise and commitment. Dr. Bridget assumed the role of STM’s CTO while Lissette became STM’s COO, laying the foundation for success in all future endeavors.

Driven by their shared passion for technology and education, the boys, under GC’s leadership, partnered to serve as pioneers of this transformative platform. The initial pizza event set the stage for what was to come.

That day marked the beginning of a journey that continues to impact lives, ignite dreams, and build
a brighter, more inclusive digital future for all.

From that initial discussion, STM was born, a 501c3, nonprofit dedicated to revolutionizing education through innovative STEM programs. With a focus on paying it forward, STM aims to empower individuals, regardless of their socioeconomic status, promote lifelong learning, and shape the next generation of technologists, innovators, and leaders.
